Nebraska isn’t just a place where you could watch your dog run away for three days straight. It’s also home to Hornady, who have made fine bullets and eventually cartridges since their founder bought surplus loading presses after WWII.

This 6.5 Grendel cartridge is from Hornady’s Frontier label, a versatile approach to range training and target practice – but by no means incapable of proving its worth for varmint hunting or personal protection, either. Its 123 grain bullet is a simple, non-expanding FMJ, with a concentrically drawn copper jacket and uniform lead core to promote smooth feeding and consistent accuracy. The balanced and streamlined bullet keeps about 64 percent of its velocity at 500 yards, and does well to resist wind drift with its 0.420 ballistic coefficient.

This round’s nonmagnetic projectile sits flat in its new brass shell casing, with precise dimensions for reliable feeding and chambering. Keep a Frontier load’s case for future reloading, and bank on its non-corrosive Boxer primer and military grade propellant the first time you fire it.
