This cartridge is loaded with Barnes’ own 127 grain Long Range eXpanding boat tail projectile. It is a solid copper bullet with a polymer tip, and it is intensely accurate. Not only does its monolithic composition reflect its near-perfect rotational stability. Its multiple pressure relieving grooves and inability to create lead residue do their parts to greatly reduce barrel fouling, thus keeping the rifling more effective at its job. The LRX BT’s sharp meplat, sleek frontal profile and boat tail all create extremely drag – so much so that the bullet achieves a 0.468 G1 ballistic coefficient (sadly, Barnes has not reported this cartridge’s muzzle velocity at the time of writing).
The lead-free LRX BT does two important things once it has struck the quarry. First, it tunnels deeply, as its inability to undergo core/jacket separation and durable copper body both promote awesome weight retention. Second, it expands wide, as its polymer tip thrusts into its nose cavity to force the production of four long, curling cutting petals.
This Utah-made ammunition features corrosion resistant and smooth-cycling nickel-plated brass cases, as well as the matched primers and propellant charges requisite for predictable ballistic performance.
