Remington brought in a little outside help for this one. The match-grade primers, powder, and shells are all Big Green’s, but the bullet is a Berger open tip match. That’s a J4 Precision Jacket – drawn to an unsurpassed concentricity standard of ± 0.0003” in maximum variation – with a hybrid ogive that combines the streamlinedness of a secant ogive, ideal bore alignment of a tangent ogive, and none of the weaknesses of either. If 24” barrel, then 2,925 fps muzzle velocity and 0.607 G1 BC; therefore:
0yds: 2,925 fps | 2,660 ft lbs | -1.5”
100yds: 2,770 fps | 2,386 ft lbs | 3.7”
200yds: 2,621 fps | 2,137 ft lbs | 4.4”
300yds: 2,477 fps | 1,908 ft lbs | 0.0”
400yds: 2,338 fps | 1,699 ft lbs | -10.1”
500yds: 2,202 fps | 1,508 ft lbs | -26.5”
600yds: 2,071 fps | 1,334 ft lbs | -50.1”
Use this ammo to tackle your varmint problems, if you’re so inclined! But if you’re hunting deer, then the OTM’s just not going to provide the terminal ballistics you and the deer both deserve.
