We’re not going to pretend the 7.62x39mm is America’s favorite rifle cartridge for home defense. But plenty of us (including the writer of this very product description) value the AK-47 for its defensive capabilities all the same. If you would ever keep chaos at bay with your trusty Kalashnikov, then Hornady BLACK offers everything you need.

This cartridge is loaded with a 111 grain MonoFlex SBR projectile. If that seems light for the 7.62x39, then you are right. The bullet lacks any lead, and therefore isn’t as dense as a traditional FMJ or SP. The MonoFlex SBR is a monolithic projectile: all copper, which poses several benefits in addition to legal hunting on protected lands.

The MonoFlex SBR is clean-shooting, accurate, and capable of retaining the vast majority of its weight as it tunnels through soft tissue. While that is happening, the MonoFlex’s flexible Flex Tip squeezes into its nose cavity to generate rapid, broad-diameter expansion.

The “SBR” in the bullet’s name stands for “short-barreled rifle.” Don’t let that turn you off, though. The MonoFlex SBR still produces its desired results at higher impact velocities, so you can confidently chamber it in a Russian-designed rifle as well.
