Customer rating:
This is the ammo everyone shoots through AK's and SKS's. Nothing pretty, but it works. Steel cases do not damage these weapons; this ammo was designed for them and it is the type that is used worldwide.
Reliability:
I have seen several "misfires" that were not due to the ammo. Many AK's on the market today are poorly assembled kit-guns that have various alignment problems. This can result in failure of the bolt to close completely and other problems that result in light primer impacts. I'm not saying that all failures to fire are due to this, but I know that some are, and failures due to the weapon artificially inflate the numbers of FTF incidences attributed to the ammo.
I have heard some people say that this ammo is not reliable enough for use in a home defense weapon. I strongly suggest that anyone considering using the 7.62X39 for home defense familiarize themselves with the penetration capability of this round in common construction materials. It has the capability of causing extensive collateral damage if fired in a residential area.
