A: Thanks for reaching out Marcus! I'm nearly certain this 7.62x51 M80 ammo's muzzle velocity was recorded with a 22" test barrel, but I'll reach out to Winchester to confirm and report right back to you if I hear anything.

A: Sure thing William! The U.S. Armed Forces has many specifications for certain cartridges. For example, M193 is their most basic type of 5.56x45 ammunition: an FMJ bullet with a lead core and a gilding metal jacket, nothing more. Similarly, M80 is our military's specification for their most basic type of 7.62x51 ammunition: FMJ bullet, lead core, gilding metal jacket. It's the standard issue for engaging personnel and unarmored targets. M80 is pretty much as "vanilla" as it gets in terms of 7.62x51. Not all 7.62x51 ammunition is loaded to M80 specs, however, so it accordingly doesn't get the designation.
