It’s also a shame Mr. Hood didn’t have access to a 7mm-08 Remington rifle and a box of Hornady American Whitetail Tipped ammunition. He might have done some truly legendary stuff with them – but fortunately, you can now do the same!
This cartridge’s SST bullet lives up to its name. Its hard polymer tip triggers fast expansion, radiating a shockwave of energy that overwhelms the quarry’s resolve immediately after impact. The SST is also armed with a mid-body cannelure and InterLock ring, both of which anchor its core and jacket together to ensure lethally deep penetration.
The SST delivers itself to the target with exceptional precision as well. Its tip, side profile and boat tail all do their parts to minimize in-flight drag effectively. Upon clearing Hornady’s 24” test barrel at a velocity of 2,860 fps, the 139 grain SST’s 0.486 G1 BC carries it downrange in this fashion:
0yds: 2,860 fps | 2,525 ft lbs | -1.5”
100yds: 2,671 fps | 2,202 ft lbs | 4.1”
200yds: 2,489 fps | 1,913 ft lbs | 4.9”
300yds: 2,315 fps | 1,654 ft lbs | 0.0”
400yds: 2,148 fps | 1,424 ft lbs | -11.4”
500yds: 1,987 fps | 1,219 ft lbs | -30.3”
600yds: 1,834 fps | 1,039 ft lbs | -58.1”
