Federal Premium’s exciting new magnum-powerful (but not magnum-size) cartridge becomes even better when it teams up with the Berger Elite Hunter. The HPBT-style bullet features the longest Hybrid ogive Berger than make – a profile which provides the ideal blend of precision bore alignment and low-drag performance. The Elite Hunter’s J4 Precision jacket is designed to allow 2–3” penetration before giving way to massive expansion (quite unlike a traditional HPBT, which does not expand). Berger says it’s all in service of an ethical kill. We agree with them.
Steel cases are usually a cheap substitute for brass. Federal’s proprietary Peak Alloy steel case, which provides the strength such a small cartridge needs to contain so much pressure, is a glowing exception.
