This is Hornady’s American Whitetail Tipped ammunition, which, unlike its predecessor, features polymer-tipped bullets instead of soft point ones. That lets you avail yourself of the SST’s mighty terminal performance: deep-penetrating thanks to the two protrusions which anchor the SST’s jacket to its core, and fast-expanding thanks to the bullet’s tipped nose cavity and progressively tapered jacket.
Its tip doesn’t just grant the SST fast expansion. It also streamlines the bullet, as do the SST’s optimized boat tail and low-drag secant ogive profile. Hornady says the 154 grain pill hits 3,025 fps muzzle velocity and 0.525 G1 BC out of their 24” test barrel, which is the more succinct way of saying it offers this long-range ballistic performance:
