Now hold on just a cotton-pickin’ minute. A muzzle velocity of 1,280 fps for a 9mm 115 grain bullet? What is this ammo? Some kind of +P?
No sir! It is not. This round’s MV only appears to be unusually high, because Sellier & Bellot recorded it with a 6” barrel as opposed to America’s standard 4”. We don’t know why they bucked convention like that. Maybe Czech people just like bucking convention. We don’t really know too much about what goes on in that part of the world.
Sellier & Bellot followed every other convention while loading these lightweight target slappers (which, to be sure, still attain supersonic MV out of a 4” tube). Their full metal jackets are armored in copper-zinc alloy, nonmagnetic, and ready for action in a ported barrel (or compensator; or both). Their brass cases are new, and their large pistol primers are noncorrosive Boxers.
Here’s the 0.116 G1 BC 115 grain FMJ’s performance out of a 6” barrel:
