A: Hi Nick! Great question. I'll keep the answer as brief as possible. Steel cases are cheaper. That's their only benefit. Since steel isn't supple like brass, it doesn't seal off the chamber as effectively during ignition. That causes more fouling. There is also a greater risk of a stuck case, as steel doesn't return to its original dimensions following ignition like suppler brass does. Steel cases also aren't reloadable (unless you have specialized equipment and the patience of a saint; a handloader friend once told me he wouldn't try it even during the apocalypse). In contrast, brass cases are more expensive, cleaner-shooting, generally more reliable, and reloadable.
