This is a 9mm +P cartridge, with an extra juicy chamber pressure that chucks its 138 grain bullet at a muzzle velocity of 1,150 fps (4” barrel). That’s about as fast as a standard pressure 115 grain bullet moves, which means extra striking power (at the cost of added recoil). Only fire this ammo in a pistol rated for +P (almost all modern ones are).
You want every advantage you can get while you’re fighting dangerous game with a handgun. That’s why Hornady developed the Dangerous Game Handgun bullet. It undergoes zero expansion, instead focusing on boring as deeply as possible into the threat. Penetration that would easily pass through a man is just the ticket when big bones and slabs of meat shield an animal threat from your gun. (To be sure, this is *not* the right ammo for defense where there are other people around.)
