This cartridge’s bullet isn’t like an FMJ, which is made of hard copper and lead. As a frangible bullet it’s made of sintered metal powder, and it retains its form until it collides with steel or other hard surfaces at high speed. At the instant of impact the frangible bullet disintegrates into tiny fragments and particles, thus virtually abolishing the risk of splash-back or ricochets.
This 90 grain bullet’s unusually light weight is the result of it being completely lead-free. It won’t fill up a poorly ventilated indoor range up with toxic dust over the course of a training session, nor will hot propellant gasses evaporate anything you’d rather not have in your lungs.
Winchester’s nonmagnetic and nontoxic frangible bullet is seated in a new production brass case – you can reload it with whatever kind of bullet you please, frangible or otherwise. The American Legend’s Boxer primers are non-corrosive and their propellant is clean-burning, which alongside a lead-free bullet keeps a firearm from fouling up very quickly.
