This cartridge has a frangible bullet. In contrast to the traditional FMJ that is usually used for target shooting, a frangible bullet is essentially a hard column of compressed metal powder. Winchester’s frangible bullet is strong enough to endure feeding and ignition without fracturing, but once it hits steel, stone or concrete it shatters into dust and tiny pieces. The frangible bullet is basically incapable of ricocheting, nor will the particles it erupts into risk bouncing back to hit you. That’s why tactical training with steel targets calls for ammo exactly like this!
This bullet weighs 90 grains because it contains no lead to weigh it down. It has a fast muzzle velocity, but more importantly it is completely nontoxic. That’s crucial, because it prevents an indoor range’s air from cluttering up with lead dust while you’re hitting target after target. It also prevents hot propellant gasses from aerosolizing any lead during ignition.
Its bullet is special, but otherwise this is Winchester’s usual white box quality 9mm ammo with new and reloadable brass cases and low-fouling explosive components.
