American Eagle is part of Federal's premium line of training ammunition. It has a great reputation for reliability and consistency. Like all Federal ammo, American Eagle is made in Minnesota, here in the US. The brass primers and casings are all made in the same facility, which helps maintain a high standard of quality control.
For this test, we shot some American Eagle 165 grain in a 40 Smith & Wesson. It has a reloadable brass case, full metal jacket bullet with a lead core, and a non-corrosive primer. Our accuracy test was performed at 15 yards from a bench rest using a SIG P226. You can see from the 10-shot group that we got pretty good results. It was just a little tighter than the group we shot with 180 grain 40 pellet test.
Just as expected, there were no failures in any of our test guns. And I couldn't be happier with the overall performance we saw. Because of its accuracy, reliability, and reloadable brass cases, American Eagle is some of my favorite range and training ammunition. And even though it's part of Federal's premium line, it comes at an affordable price.

Okay ammo quality
Used this ammo in 4 different guns all had at least one failure to fire in each gun. When it works is okay for accuracy. Shot around 300 rounds and gave up on this ammo. There are other brands out there that are better. My experience says be cautious. If you wanted to know the guns Glock 22, Walther P99, Springfield XDM, Glock 23.
Good product, fast shipping
I use the American Eagle ammo for my Glock 22 and 27. I typically order 1,000 rounds at a time. I haven't run into any issues with the ammo and have ordered/will continue to order the same from Lucky Gunner.
Great range ammo at a reasonable price
I have about 1000 rounds of AE ammo (both 165 and 180 gr) thru an H&K P30L with 100% reliability. For those complaining about this ammo, I would question the maintenance on the sidearm, itself. I have seen some very, very good sidearms jam, stovepipe, etc due to poor maintenance (e.g. gummed up, lack of oil, etc) ...regardless of ammo used. All unofficial tests, of course, as the opportunity usually arises when my buddy next to me has problems and blames his ammo. I take his ammo, load my sidearm up and it works fine. Only once did any of my sidearms have an issue that was ammo related and it wasn't AE...it was cheaper ammo made in mexico and had been stored improperly in a damp environment...you do the math. At this point, and 1000's of rounds later, this has become my default target ammo.
Good quality ammo, price and shipping
I bought this ammo cause the price was to good to pass up and the shipping was fast. I have used this brand before and never had an issue with it. I will definitely be buying here again and recommending friends and fellow range buddies to Lucky Gunner.
Great Price for Great Ammo
I recently purchased a Smith and Wesson M&P .40 and bought several brands of ammo in various bullet weights to try out in my newly acquired firearm. Though I had no FTF or FTE in anything I shot through the M&P, I found that Federal American Eagle 165 gr FMJ, IMO, was the best in terms of consistent accuracy and manageable recoil in rapid fire scenarios. So, I found the best price on this site for 1000 rounds and took the plunge. I placed my order Thursday morning, requesting it be sent in a cover box at standard shipping rate via Fed Ex. The shipping calculator estimated my package to arrive no later than Monday, which I believed to be very acceptable. To my surprise, it arrived the next day (Friday) just before noon! That's Right...just over 24 hours from placing my order to arrival! Lucky Gunner has earned my respect and business.
Great Ammo-All around! / brass is superior!
This is the first .40s&w ammo I bought for my new G22 Gen4 when they came out to open mkt. I shot cases of this ammo in both 165gr & 180gr versions. Never a FTF and always consistent. I saved my brass for a friend but, long story short, I started handloading myself and had easily 1500 once fired cases. I still have those cases 4 yrs later! They just haven't 'worn out'! I stopped counting my first lot of cases after 15x reloaded. I'm an experimental type and these cases have seen immeasurable variables is loads using 135-220g bulits, 6-7 diff propellants from fast (WST) to slow (AA#9), pressures from puffers to max, Glock and KKM bbls., 3 diff primers incl std and magnum, etc. They still clean up nice in walnut+dab of Nufinish (occasionally) and the only sign of wear is fading headstamp and minor extractor marks.
So, not only does this ammo shoot great oob, the cases are a handloader's dream! I know some of mine are 20+ loads and still gtg. Even if you don't reload now, SAVE THESE CASES! ...and ship them to me! ;)
Shoot AND load safe! And have no doubts regarding this ammo.
Good bang for the buck!
Ordered 5 boxes. Received items in very short time span. Have shot about 100 rounds through my Glock 23. No problems. Good bang for the buck. Will definitely buy more of this ammo from Luckygunner!
impossible to beat
A great purchase all around, this truly is top of the line ammo. Yes some of the bullets are slightly dinged up, and the finish on a few of the cases here and there are slightly tarnished, but this isn't a beauty pageant. i've already run through 200 of my 1000 round purchase, and they fire consistently and cleanly
This is the exact same ammo my local PD runs at the range, they can't afford to be throwing JHP's downrange and they trust this ammo 100% for reliability and consistency during their training
The price, are you kidding me? Even with shipping charges included you can't even come close to this price at a local shop, buy your firearms local, buy your ammo from LuckyGunner, period
As Good As it Gets
I have literally shot tens of thousands of rounds of this ammo from American Eagle and never had a single problem - ever.
If this ammo jams in your gun - buy a new gun!
The same applies for Speer Lawman though - both are top notch (and I think made by the same parent company?)
