Forget about target shooting with an FMJ or LRN. There’s no style that way. No flair. No panache.

What you really want to be shooting targets with is a lead semi-wadcutter, such as the very 225 grain lead bullet this Remington Express 45 Long Colt cartridge is loaded with. The bullet’s flat meplat, cylindrical tip, and angular shoulder do an excellent job of carving a crisp and clean hole through cardboard or paper, which means you get to see exactly how tightly you’re grouping your shots. The LSWC is also unjacketed, which makes it a safer (albeit not 100% risk-free) way to shoot steel targets. No chance of brittle copper fragments deflecting back at you that way!

Shooters occasionally ask us if LSWC ammo is reliable in lever-action rifles. It usually is, but we can’t guarantee anything about your own rifle unless we see it for ourselves, which we haven’t. Smith & Wesson Governors, Taurus Judges, and other 45 Colt revolvers will fire this ammo like it was made for them, which it is.
