The Glaser Safety Slug line of ammunition is perfect for self-defense with its enhanced frangible bullet design. Instead of the traditional solid lead core in most hollow point bullets, the Glaser Safety Slug is constructed with a pre-fragmented projectile with a copper jacket and contains a compressed core of #12 lead shot. This enhanced design allows for flawless feeding and rapid follow up shots so that you can carry with confidence. This premium ammunition offers superb performance and functionality for civilian use and is perfect for small apartment complexes and close quarter security areas.

Firing at 1,500 feet per second, the 80 grain projectiles fragment along manufactured lines in the jacket. This results in large, shallow wounds upon impact. This particular ammo is not suitable for long-range shooting or protected targets with its light weight and fragility.

The Glaser Safety Slug was introduced in the 1970's and was used by US Marshals for protection while aboard commercial airlines. This box of 20 rounds is a new production, boxer-primed, and non-corrosive.

Ballistics Test Summary

In order to find out how different self-defense handgun loads perform, we decided to do some ballistics gelatin testing of our own. The chart below is a compilation of expansion and penetration data for Corbon 80 gr Glaser fired from 10 feet, through four layers of fabric (to simulate clothing), using a Smith & Wesson M&P9C pistol.

The photo slider provides a close-up view of the bullets we recovered from the gelatin, and the video shows this load entering the gel in extreme slow motion.

The diagrams at the bottom of the page can give you an idea of how this load compares to other 9mm Luger (9x19) self-defense loads that we tested.
