This round’s bullet is special: a 55 grain Copper alloy eXpanding. It’s made of tough copper alloy. No soft lead core. No core to speak of at all, in fact, because it lacks a jacket that could separate during penetration through barriers or a threat. The CX’s flat polymer tip doesn’t streamline it, although it does do something more helpful during close-range engagements: preventing barrier particles from cramming up inside its nose cavity, where they would render said cavity incapable of initiating expansion. The tip slams inward when the CX strikes flesh, which helps promote up to 0.5” diameter expansion.
This ammo’s bullets satisfy the FBI test protocol for terminal ballistics, but not all by themselves. They’re also backed by flash-suppressed propellant to help the shooter’s eyes stay sharp in dark environments, and deliver the 53 grain CX at a muzzle velocity of 3,335 fps (24” SAAMI test barrel); 2,945 fps (Daniel Defense 16” barrel); 2,959 (Colt M4 Carbine 14.5” barrel).
