The V-MAX is Hornady’s premier small game bullet. Its polymer tip is positioned over a precision-formed pit in its lead core. The tip’s shaft slides down there on impact until it finally connects with the core at the bottom. By this time the V-MAX’s tip has built up enough energy to initiate fragmentation of its core and jacket.
The V-MAX issues reliable terminal expansion at impact velocities 1,600 fps and faster. And because the bullet features a streamlined polymer tip, aerodynamic profile, rotationally stable concentric jacket and balanced swaged lead core, it’s able keep flying faster than 1,600 fps up until around 613 yards.
Federal’s own reliable primers and powder ensure that this ammo’s 53 grain bullets achieve a higher-than-average muzzle velocity of 3,400 fps. And if you wind up missing your target, then at least you’ll have a reloadable brass case to show for all your trouble.
