A: Thanks for reaching out! Federal does indeed make this ammunition so people can train with the closest possible thing to M855 at ranges which prohibit magnetic bullets. The bullet's 62 grain weight, 3,020 fps muzzle velocity out of a 20" barrel, and 0.307 G1 ballistic coefficient are all the same or very similar stats to an M855 cartridge. It won't be perfectly identical ballistic performance, but I personally wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

A: Thanks for reaching out Doug! A "boat tail" refers to a bullet's tapered base. You can see a side-by-side comparison of a flat base (left) and a boat tail (right) bullet here:

A boat tail makes a bullet more ballistically efficient – i.e. better able to overcome air resistance in flight. Its boat tail helps a bullet retain more velocity downrange, which in turn flattens its trajectory, protects it against wind drift, and retains more of the bullet's energy so it can hit harder on impact.

A: Hello Nick,
This Federal ammunition is loaded with a standard copper jacketed, lead core projectile. It does not contain any steel and will have no issues passing a magnet test.
