No part of a MatchKing is designed to enhance any aspect of performance other than accuracy. The projectile combines virtually flawless jacket concentricity, a perfectly balanced solid lead core, and sleek jacket geometry which gracefully tapers off to a boat tail in order to minimize frontal air resistance and optimize gyroscopic stability.
The massive 77 grain MatchKing attains a G1 0.372/G7 0.188 ballistic coefficient. If you were to set your sights at 400 yards, you could anticipate a trajectory which doesn’t rise higher than 14” – as well as velocity which won’t become subsonic until nearly 900 yards.
A couple notes on this ammo’s performance. First, the MatchKing is not a hunting bullet. It won’t treat its target gently, but it won’t expand upon bursting into soft tissue. Second, although so heavy a bullet excels at retaining its momentum and overcoming wind deflection, you do want a faster barrel twist to accommodate its extra mass. A 1:6”, 1:7” or 1:8” rate of twist is appropriate for 77 grains.
This ammunition is loaded with Federal’s highest-quality Gold Medal Boxer primers, clean-burning propellant and reloadable brass cases.
