A: Thanks for reaching out Derrick! The speed of sound is 1,125 feet per second (give or take a few fps depending on external factors like air pressure and elevation). When a cartridge's muzzle velocity exceeds 1,125 fps, it is considered supersonic. As a general rule, if a 300 AAC Blackout cartridge has a projectile that weighs 200 grains or more, it is subsonic. Such bullets are simply too heavy to break the speed of sound before exiting the muzzle.
