This ammo is lead-free, as a matter of fact: loaded with a 170 grain MonoFlex of Hornady’s own creation. It is a solid copper hollow point, with a supple polymer Flex Tip that fills up most of its nose cavity where it provides (A) a sleek, streamlined meplat that complements the MonoFlex’s ballistically efficient secant ogive profile, and (B) extra force that drives out wider expansion on impact. The MonoFlex is also abnormally durable – a trait shared by all monometal bullets, and the reason why it consistently retains 95% or more of its weight.
Hornady chronographed this round’s 2,075 fps muzzle velocity and 1,117 fps 500-yard with the aid of a 16” test barrel. Its resultant 0.314 G1 BC stands for this promising ballistic performance:
