At least the world has provided one heck of a cartridge to do your target shootin’ with. Hornady popped a 175 grain Hollow Point Match into this 338 ARC round’s brand new polished brass case. It’s not built for expansion. It’s not ideal for defense or deer hunting for that reason. But thanks to its supremely concentric copper jacket and form-fitted lead core, the HP Match is able to hit a high G1 BC of 0.385 upon clearing a 16” barrel. That’s the ballistics nerd’s way of saying the bullet will exhibit this kind of behavior:
0 yards: 2,075 fps | 1,673 ft lbs | -1.5”
100 yards: 1,878 fps | 1,370 ft lbs | 4.2”
200 yards: 1,694 fps | 1,115 ft lbs | 0.0”
300 yards: 1,525 fps | 903 ft lbs | -16.4”
400 yards: 1,373 fps | 732 ft lbs | -47.7”
500 yards: 1,242 fps | 600 ft lbs | -97.6”
Hornady promises clockwork performance out of this ammo regardless of which rifle you’re cranking it through. And those aforementioned brass cases? Reloadable!
