The correct answer, of course, is both.
Half of this box’s contents is HST 230 grain JHP ammunition. The HST bullet is rugged, and programmed for intensely reliable terminal ballistics. According to Federal’s own research, the bullet plows through heavy clothing and into ordnance gelatin without shedding more than 1 grain of its weight. It penetrates to a depth of 13.5”, and expands until it has more than doubled in diameter. This result is considered excellent according to the FBI’s own test protocol for defensive ammunition.
The other half of this box is Syntech 230 grain TSJ ammunition. It shares the same muzzle velocity as the HST loads, and provides extremely similar recoil and point of aim – ideal for instructive training. The TSJ bullet has an all-encompassing polymer jacket instead of a copper one, which (A) eliminates copper and lead fouling, (B) greatly decreases friction against the bore, and (C) vastly reduces the risk of splash-back while you’re bombarding steel targets.
