“M193” just means that this is the most basic type of 5.56 ammo the U.S. Armed Forces would use during training and combat. Each cartridge sports a standard 55 grain full metal jacket projectile, with a nonmagnetic copper alloy jacket and lead core. This bullet ends in a tapered boat tail base, which helps it to retain more velocity and energy downrange. A boat tail also helps the bullet avoid getting blown off-course by annoying crosswinds.

The M193 projectile doesn’t expand in the traditional sense – although it does break apart into fragments if it hits soft tissue at a high enough velocity.
