A: Our apologies for the late response! That barrel length and twist ought to prove adequate to give this round's relatively heavy bullet the stability it needs to perform well downrange. That said, you could select a better round for home defense in our humble opinion. While this round's bullet is technically a hollow point, it's not designed to create terminal expansion. The aperture in the bullet's tip indicates that its core was poured into place while still molten, thus making its weight uniformly distributed. Furthermore, this style of bullet's base is jacketed for greater uniformity. If you like Hornady's products, then we would recommend ammo from their Critical Defense label for home defense. It offers a 223 Rem round with a 55 grain FTX projectile, nickel plated shell casing, and flash-suppressed propellant that's optimized for efficacy against a human-sized threat. You can read more about it here: ammunition/rifle/223-remington-55-gr-critical-defense#!
