But you don’t listen to what deer have to say. You only listen to ammunition salesmen, which is why I’m here to tell you that this round’s 143 grain ELD-X bullet rules!
The ELD-X does indeed generate extremely low drag. Its tip has a unique, flat profile designed by Hornady to increase drag uniformity and decrease dispersion. This enhances the ELD-X’s accuracy, as do its Heat Shield tip’s resistance to heat deformation, AMP jacket’s excellent concentricity, and gracefully sloped secant ogive profile.
The ELD-X switches tactics on impact. That’s when its InterLock ring keeps its core and jacket mostly unseparated, and its polymer tip institutes wide mushrooming. The ELD-X is advertised to remain effective at impact as soft as 1,400 fps, which this round can easily do past 1,000 yards.
The 143 grain ELD-X has a 0.315 G7 ballistic coefficient. Upon hitting its advertised muzzle velocity (which was recorded with a 24" barrel), the bullet will do roughly the following:
0yds: 2,850 fps | 2,580 ft lbs | -1.5”
200yds: 2,563 fps | 2,087 ft lbs | 9.9”
400yds: 2,293 fps | 1,669 ft lbs | 0.0”
600yds: 2,038 fps | 1,319 ft lbs | -36.4”
800yds: 1,799 fps | 1,028 ft lbs | -106.6”
