This round is bejeweled with the 175 grain Extremely Low Drag - eXpanding projectile. The ELD-X’s signature feature is its Heat Shield tip. It’s made of polymer that’s specially formulated to withstand aerodynamic heating without deforming, which ensures an always-perfect meplat. The ELD-X’s AMP jacket, secant ogive silhouette, and boat tail also do their jobs to flatten trajectory and sharpen accuracy. At 0.347, its G7 ballistic coefficient gives the ELD-X a trajectory that rises a mere 4.3” en route to a 300-yard zero.
The ELD-X lacks a bonded jacket, although the InterLock ring which attaches its jacket to its core does ensure no more than 50% weight loss at ranges within 400 yards. The ELD-X’s weight retention increases to at least 85% beyond that range. At low-velocity impact the ELD-X’s polymer tip and nose cavity produce the wide terminal expansion which can end any American hunt in an instant.
The deep-penetrating and death-dealing ELD-X is seated in Hornady’s highest-quality brass case, with a primer/powder combo that delivers a steady 3,000 fps muzzle velocity out of a 24” barrel.
