This is one of the highest-velocity 9mm self-defense cartridges you’re likely to find (at least as far as rounds loaded with traditional lead-core bullets are concerned). Between its light 115 grain projectile and high-powered charge or propellant, this round has all it needs to produce a muzzle velocity of 1,350 fps – about 14.5% faster than a standard-pressure 115 grain alternative.

The upshot to this round’s above-standard chamber pressure? About 23.5% higher striking energy at close range, which makes the jacketed hollow point’s terminal expansion that much more painful and debilitating. The downshots? Higher recoil, increased risk of over-penetrating the threat, and accelerated wear and tear on the firearm’s barrel and moving parts, primarily. It’s also crucial to note that 9mm +P is no good for antique firearms.
